Main Idea
Process
The idea started with the concept of “Synesthesia.” Generally, Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway (for example, hearing) leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway (such as vision). Simply put, when one sense is activated, another unrelated sense is activated at the same time. (reference)
I found synesthesia interesting and tried to show a piece of music in painting. For this concept, I used a piece of music, Caprice #24 di Paganini by Jascha Heifetz, and I was impressed with the hand violinist. To show this performance, I used the Italian movement painting, which is the futurism movement. Futurist painting used elements of neo-impressionism and cubism to create compositions that expressed the idea of the dynamism, the energy and movement, of modern life. (reference) So, it was a good combination to present the hand violinist in one frame. I have two places to exhibit my work.
Synesthesia Experimental Exhibition
The idea started with the concept of “Synesthesia.” I used some video projectors, rotoscope, oil painting, and projection mapping to present it in two places:
1. DMD exhibition in Storrs, University of Connecticut, USA
2. Bushnell exhibition in Hartford, Connecticut, USA
